It occurred to me that few of you have seen our car, which we bought in September. Here he (definitely a boy car) is, parked in front of our house. After nearly 10 years of marriage without having bought one, part of me resisted giving in on this. However, now that we have two kids I can no longer commute by bike-- and now that the boys aren't babies any more, it's useful to be able to take them to activities that are further afield than we can walk or get to by public transport in a reasonable amount of time.

And here's another random thing: "Our" heron! We reckon he's a boy, too. We see him catch a fish every now and then, but mostly he just stands still on a perch somewhere. When we spot him, we say hello (quietly, as he's rather grumpy and flies off when we speak above a whisper) as we walk through Brookmill Park, where he appears to reside. There's a duck pond there, but the heron can often also be spotted in the nearby stream along which we walk between Lewisham and Deptford. In this picture, Mr. Heron is standing in a huge, ancient, fallen tree which crashed into the pond earlier this year.

I've just found some other photos of Brookmill Park on another blog here! Have a look: http://deptforddame.blogspot.com/2007/05/park-and-half.html

Kori--it was fun to think of that walk between Lewisham and Deptford--having made it myself so many times all those years ago. Thank you for sharing your pics.

Solomon looks so serious about that cake!
